Comparing Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Municipal Solid Waste Management Scenarios: A case of Palembang, Indonesia

چکیده

The waste sector is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Indonesia. Landfilling (without methane recovery) and open burning solid contribute significantly GHG emissions. This study analyses magnitude from various municipal management (MSW) alternatives Palembang city. estimation was conducted for five scenarios, i.e. (a) BAU scenario (existing) where 850.12 tonnes MSW disposed semi-aerobic landfill (not well managed), 37.73% incinerators, 1.17% 3R facilities, 61.1% others; (b) Scenario 1, which upgraded a (well managed); (c) 3, 70% managed) 30% facilities; (e) 4, all collected treated incinerators. methodology estimating used IPCC 2006 (revised 2019). Emission Quantification Tool IGES calculate collection, transportation, composting, recycling/upcycling, final disposal (landfill or incineration). projected up year 2030, accordance with Indonesian NDC. result analysis shows that existing condition (BAU) has highest GHGs (730,767 CO2e). -4 lowest (117,954 Therefore, activities are most important success factor reducing sector. Further financial studies multi-stakeholder engagement needed these scenarios plan sustainable management.

Greenhouse gas emissions from municipal solid waste management in Indian mega-cities: a case study of Chennai landfill sites.

Municipal solid waste generation rate is over-riding the population growth rate in all mega-cities in India. Greenhouse gas emission inventory from landfills of Chennai has been generated by measuring the site specific emission factors in conjunction with relevant activity data as well as using the IPCC methodologies for CH4 inventory preparation. In Chennai, emission flux ranged from 1.0 to 23...

The impact of municipal solid waste management on greenhouse gas emissions in the United States.

Technological advancements, environmental regulations, and emphasis on resource conservation and recovery have greatly reduced the environmental impacts of municipal solid waste (MSW) management, including emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs). This study was conducted using a life-cycle methodology to track changes in GHG emissions during the past 25 years from the management of MSW in the Unit...

Municipal solid waste management scenarios for Attica and their greenhouse gas emission impact.

Disposal of municipal solid waste in sanitary landfills is still the main waste management method in the Attica region, as in most regions of Greece. Nevertheless, diversion from landfilling is being promoted by regional plans, in which the perspectives of new waste treatment technologies are being evaluated. The present study aimed to assess the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions impact of differe...

Life cycle assessment of municipal solid waste management with regard to greenhouse gas emissions: case study of Tianjin, China.

The environmental impacts of municipal solid waste (MSW) management have been highlighted in China, due to the continually increasing amount of MSW being generated and the limited capacity of waste treatment facilities. Of particular interest is greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation, aided by the Kyoto Mechanisms. China is an important case study for this global issue; however, an analysis of the ent...

Life-Cycle Assessment of Waste Management Greenhouse Gas Emissions Using Municipal Waste Combustor Data

This paper compares life-cycle greenhouse gas GHG emissions from two municipal solid waste MSW management options, municipal waste combustion, and landfilling, using a U.S. EPA life-cycle assessment LCA model, the MSW Decision Support Tool. Unlike previously reported LCAs, key combustion model inputs—total MSW carbon content and its biogenic/fossil split—are determined not from MSW composition ...
